Rain Sounds

Press play and it rains for as long as you need it to. Choose light rain for a soft background hiss, heavy rain for a heavier downpour that masks noisy neighbours, or rain with distant thunder for the low rolling rumble of a storm passing somewhere far away.

It is built for falling asleep, not for watching. Set the sleep timer and the rain fades out gently after 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes instead of cutting off mid-shower. Switch on dark screen and the animation disappears into pure black — on an OLED phone that means the display draws almost no power while the sound keeps going. And because the page asks your device to stay awake while it plays, the screen will not lock and silence it a few minutes in.

No account, no app, no autoplaying next video at three in the morning. Prefer a steadier, less textured sound? The white noise player is its sibling.

What people use it for

Falling asleep

Steady rainfall masks traffic, corridors and snoring. Start with light rain at low volume and let the timer fade it out once you are under.

Focus and study

Rain is unstructured noise with no lyrics and no beat, so it hides office chatter without competing for attention the way music does.

Calming down

Slow, predictable sound gives a racing mind something dull to hold on to — the reason rain apps outsell almost every other kind of ambient audio.

Babies and naps

Constant rainfall at a moderate volume and a safe distance settles many infants, and unlike a video it never ends halfway through the nap.

Frequently asked questions

Are the rain sounds free?

Completely. There is nothing to install, no account and no trial — open the page, press play, and it runs in your browser.

Will it keep playing while I sleep?

On desktop it plays as long as the tab is open. On mobile the page requests a screen wake lock so your phone will not lock and cut the audio; keep the browser in the foreground and turn on dark screen to save battery.

What is the difference between light rain, heavy rain and thunder?

Light rain is a soft, high hiss — closest to pink noise. Heavy rain is louder and fuller, which masks more outside noise. Rain with thunder adds occasional low rumbles rolling in the distance, without sharp cracks that would wake you.

Can I set a sleep timer?

Yes. The timer button cycles through 15, 30, 60 and 120 minutes, and when it expires the rain fades down over about half a minute rather than stopping abruptly.

Why does rain help people sleep?

It is broadband, low-information sound: loud enough to cover sudden noises that would otherwise wake you, but so uniform that the brain quickly stops paying attention to it. That combination is what makes rainfall, white noise and fans work in much the same way.
